I finished the malaria meds two nights ago and I am feeling much better. The doc says it should disappear 2-3 days after I take the last pills. Now that I am feeling better I about to board a small airplane for a one hour flight to Kampala, Uganda. Thunderstorms are looming and I have been guaranteed no matter what the weather, it is a bumpy ride. We have had thunderstorms every evening and they have been severe in the North Rift Valley...5 people died from lightening strikes this week. If you know me well, you know that I am terrified of flying...small plane, thunderstorms, turbulence...almost sick to my stomach knowing I will be in the air in two hours.
About Uganda: I am attending the AGBIOSAFETY Conference at the plush Royal Imperial Hotel Resort. I had decided not to go to the conference until they sent the program to me last week. Heather and I, in the last minute (last night), decided I should not miss this opportunity. I will ask Heather to try to create a link on the blog for the program. There are parallel workshops:
First line of workshops are about the science around GMOs.
Second line of workshops are about the politics of GMOs in East Africa..."how do we educate small farmers about the benefits of GMOs?" Florence Wambugu will be on one of the plenaries. She is someone I am hoping to interview. Her organization, Africa Harvest, has received $21 million from the Gates Foundation.
Need to run...taxi is here to take me to the airport.
To be continued...
